Potato fritters Tamilian style!

Our Contributor Chitra From Cochin provides the recipe for making crispy, hot potato bajji.

Ingredients :

   

Besan (Gram flour/ kadala powder)

- 2 to 3 cups

Chilly powder

- 2 tsp

Salt

- 3/4th tsp or as required

Potatoes

- 2 or 3 (Wash them, if you want to peel you can)

Baking soda

- 1/2 tsp

Asfoetida

- 1/2 tsp

Water

- as needed to make a thick batter
Oil - For deep-frying

Method of preparation :

Take a bowl. Put besan, add water little by little and mix the dough to a thick batter. Add chilly powder,asfoedtida powder, baking soda, salt and mix well.

Cut the potatoes, slice thinly and add to the mixture. Coat the potatoes with the batter thoroughly on both sides.

Pour oil into a pan and heat it (For frying). Put the coated potato slices in hot oil and fry, a few at a time, turning them over, until light brown in color. Drain on a tissue paper/paper towel.

Serve hot with coffee or tea and your favourite chutney. ( White chutney )
