Jaisamand wildlife sanctuary, located in close proximity to the Jaisamand
lake, was earlier used as a hunting reserve by the royalty. Located around
48 kms south east of Udaipur, Jaisamand wildlife sanctuary is the home
to several migratory and rare birds as well as wildlife like panthers,
deer, leopard, hyena, jungle cat, fox, wild boar etc. Built in the year
1957, covering an area of 62 sq km Jaisamand wildlife sanctuary has been
converted into a game sanctuary. The Jaisamand lake is the abode of crocodiles,
turtles and a variety of fish. Various species of terrestrial and water-birds
can also be seen here. The ideal time to visit Jaisamand wildlife sanctuary
is in between November and June.
