Founded in 1599 by Maharana Udai Singh, Udaipur - the 'City of lakes' is a remarkable center of Mewar Kingdom and the administrative headquarters of Udaipur district. The city hailed as the 'Venice of the East' set amidst the Aravalli hills of South Rajasthan, is one of the most romantic destinations in India. Situated on the banks of lake Pichola, the city is sometimes known as white city because of its numerous white marble palaces reflecting in the lake's calm waters.
