Chowk area, located in the heart of the old city is lined up with several old mosques and havelis, which remind tourists of a bygone era.

Chowk bazar is an excellent place in Bhopal for purchasing traditional crafts. The shops in the narrow lanes of the Chowk are treasure troves of traditional Bhopali crafts, silver and gold jewellery, exquisitely fashioned beadwork, embroidered and sequined velvet purses and cushions, Maheshwari and Chanderi sarees. From the streets of this area one can bargain and purchase things from local vendors. The Mrignayani Emporium located at Chowk offers excellent artifacts to the buyers. The lanes and by-lanes of this area offers some of the fine curries and kebabs in the city and plenty of Mughalai food is available at reasonable rates.

Jama Masjid is located at the centre of the Chowk area.
