Located in the heart of Bhopal, at the entrance of Chowk
area is the Shaukat Mahal, an architectural marvel designed by a decadent
Frenchman who is supposed to be a descendant of a subsidiary of the Bourbon
kings of France. Once served as the palace of Bhopal Nawab, this beautiful
white alabaster palace is a combination of both oriental and occidental
architectural styles. Medieval Gothic style and post- Renaissance styles
have been blended harmoniously to make Shaukat Mahal a unique structure
in Bhopal. The roof of Shaukat Mahal is adorned with a series of intricate
triangular-shaped arches and the exteriors are ornamented with beautiful
floral pattern which gives an eco-friendly appearance to the palace.
