Moti Masjid alias Pearl Mosque, situated in the heart
of the city was built in 1860 by Sikandar Jahan Begum, daughter of Qudisiya
Begum. Moti Masjid is an important historical landmark of Bhopal which
has a close resemblance to the famous Jama Masjid in Delhi. The brick
red coloured Moti Masjid has a white marble facade with two small cupolas
atop it. Two dark red spires or minarets stand free on either side and
are adorned with bright golden spikes. These minarets are considered as
the 'gate from heaven and earth' and the call to prayer for the faithful
followers of Islam is given from the top of these minarets.
