Nag Panchmi, the festival of snakes is held in Nagpur
in the month of Shravan (July-August). Nag Panchmi is the most significant
festival in Hindu mythology which is celebrated to honour the Snake God,
Shesha Nag (snake with Six hoods), vehicle of Lord Vishnu. During the
festival, devotees visit temples dedicated to snakes and snake pit, perform
aarti and offers sweets, milk and honey to the snake. Snake charmers with
cobras from different parts of the region will gather here on this occasion
and perform breathtaking show. Cultural programs like folk dances, songs
etc are also organized during Nag Panchmi.
