Ganesh Utsav alias Ganesh Chaturthi, the festival dedicated
to the elephant headed God, Lord Ganesh is held on the fourth day of Bhadrapada
(August -September). During Ganesh Chaturthi, idols of Ganesha with different
colours, shapes and sizes are made and are installed in almost every house.
These figures are worshiped in morning and evening with the offering of
a sweet ball known as 'modak'. This 8-10 days long festival with various
cultural programmes concludes on the day of Anant Chaturdashi. On this
day, the installed idol of the lord are carried out in grand procession
accompanied with music and dance for immersing in holy river or lake.
Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated in Nagpur with great keenness.
