Gudi Padwa

Gudi Padwa, held on the first day of Chaitra month (March-April) marks the beginning of New Year for Maharashtrians and Hindu Konkanis in India. On the occasion, the house are decorated with mango leaves and rangoli designs. In front of the house, a Gudi (flag- bamboo stuff with a colored silk cloth and a decorated goblet) is hanged as a mark of victory. People of Nagpur welcome the New Year with gudi worship. All family members wear new clothes and prepare special dishes such as shrikhand, poori and chana usal.
