The 1990 Commonwealth Games were held in Auckland, New Zealand from 24 January-3 February 1990. It was the 14th Commonwealth Games,
third to be hosted by New Zealand and part of New Zealand's 1990 sesquicentennial celebrations.
Despite the boycott in the 1986 games, a new record of 55 nations
participated in the second Auckland Games sending 2,826 athletes
and officials. Ten sports featured in the second Auckland Games – athletics, aquatics (diving, swimming & synchronised swimming), badminton, boxing, cycling, gymnastics, judo, lawn bowls, shooting and weightlifting.
