Kheda
or Kaira is an important trading town in the state of Gujarat. An ancient
settlement, Kheda dates from 5th century AD. The British developed a military
garrison here in 1803. Kheda has a Jain Temple with superb carving, a
church consecrated by Bishop Herber in 1822 and an early 19th Century
Town hall. Today Kheda is one of the major centres of India's dairy industry,
with the world famous Amul Milk Diary situated in Anand nearby.
