His father Mohan is a producer and his brother Raja is a noted Director. He attained a degree in Visual Communication from Loyola College Chennai and also got trained in classical dance and Martial arts. Ravi's debut film was Jayam released in the year 2002, from then on he began to be known as 'Jayam Ravi'. The movie "M Kumaran Son of Mahalaxmi" in 2004 became a super hit in south India and Jayam Ravi became an essential part of the Tamil Industry.
