Baba Ramdeo Temple (Baba Ramdev Temple) alias Adhar Shila Temple is located on the route between the Jalori Gate and Nagori Gate, about 4.5kms from Jodhpur city center. The temple was constructed around the Samadhi Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner in 1931 AD. Built on the top of a sandstone hill called Massuria Hills, this ancient temple is famous for its antiquity. There is a tiny rock in front of the temple with an inscription 'Enter at your own risk', which lend an aura of mystic charm to the temple. Baba Ramdeo, the deity of the temple is said to have attained Samadhi in 1458 AD . There are several local legends and beliefs about the origin of Baba Ramdeo temple and the deity. Baba Ramdeo, who had become a saint, hails from a Rajput family and his principle was that everyone should live with the feeling of brotherhood, oneness and coexistence as they all are equal in the eyes of God. Both Hindus and Muslims worshipped the saint with equal fervor. Hindus worship him as an incarnation of Lord Krishna where as Muslims adore him as Ram Shah Pir. Large number of devotees gathered at the Baba Ramdeo temple to attend the religious festival of Baba Ramdeo. They offer rice, coconuts, churma and wooden horses (toys) and also organize nightlong singing of bhajans and kirtans to worship Baba. |
