The renowned edifice in Jaipur, Hawa Mahal alias Palace of Winds is an
integral part of the city palace located next to the entrance. Designed
by Lal Chand Usta and built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799, this
five storied pyramid shaped structure with red and pink sandstone is noted
for its Rajputana style of architecture. It was especially built for the
ladies of the harem with an intention to allow them to watch the royal
processions during festivals and the everyday life of the city through
its latticed windows. It remains opens on all days from 9.am to 5.pm,
except Friday. Best time to visit is October to February.
