The empress garden well known as Soldiers Garden located near the Pune Race Course, adjacent to Pune-Solapur Road is one among the most historic and botanically significant gardens in Pune. The 'Empress Garden' derived its name after Queen Victoria, who won the title 'Empress of India'. Spread over an area of 39 acres of land, this well landscaped garden is rich in flora and fauna. It houses many rare species of trees and flowers, lush green lawns and a small zoo. The garden provides a play area with various rides and swings for kids. There is an attractive stream of water flowing from inside the garden. The Nana Nani park only for elders , health club ,water fountain and the statue of Queen Victoria are the other attractions. The garden also possesses a restaurant, snack stall and an ice cream parlour. The Agri-Horticultural Society of Western India has been managing the Empress Garden since 1892. The main aim of the society is to cultivate and conserve vegetation of the region. The Society organizes annual flower shows and various programs throughout the year to increase environmental awareness among people and also to promote social and cultural activities.
