Raman Science Center and Planetarium
 

Raman Science Center, is an exciting world at Nagpur, nestled opposite to Gandhi Sagar, about 1km east from the city center. Established on March 7, 1992 in honor of Dr C V Raman (the great Indian Scientist and Nobel Prize winner), the center was developed for promoting science and technology and their applications in industry and human welfare. Raman Science Center is affiliated with the Nehru Science Center of Mumbai. 

There are several exhibition galleries in the Raman Science Center namely invention gallery, Fun Science I and II galleries, Information and Communication galleries. Invention gallery gives information about various inventions in the field of science and technology, travel and communication technology, mechanical systems etc. It houses about 45 interactive exhibits, which explains the fundamental scientific principles involved in invention of new things. The gallery presents the exhibits in a vivid and easily understandable manner. Fun Science I and II gallery with 80 participatory exhibits provide the students and other visitors to experience and study various scientific laws and principles by hands. Main attractions here are Floor piano, Visible effect of Invisible, Giant Soap Bubble, Spiral Musical Tubes, Mirror Maze, and Positive shadow, Resonance etc. Information and Communication gallery exhibits the cave paintings of the early civilization to the modern world Internet. It also houses Digital Corridor, Global Positioning System, Virtual Reality, communication satellites, optical fibers, mobile handsets, computers, Computer Topography machine etc.

Raman Science Center also houses a Planetarium and a Pre-historic animal park. The planetarium, established on 5 January 1997 consists of exhibits which gives extreme knowledge about the sky. One can watch the planet, stars and other astronomical objects through the telescope at night. The planetarium presents daily 4 shows organized mainly for the school students. 

Spreads over an area of 2 acres, Pre-historic Animal Park is said to be the first of its kind in the central India. The exhibition of 3 dimensional multimedia gives an information about the different species of animals lived in the sea as well as on the land in the pre-historic era i.e., about 500 to 10,000 million years ago. A light and sound show is conducted here on every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday after sunset. 

Besides, there the Science Center has a Library; an AC Auditorium with a seating capacity for 150 persons; a large science park with an opportunity to relax in colourful surroundings, etc. The Science center remains open on all days, expect on Diwali and Holi.
