Markanda, a small village located on the left bank of Vainganga River is a religious place named after a popular sage Markandeya. The place is about 177kms south-east of Nagpur, 66kms east of Chandrapur, 44kms south-west of Gadchiroli and 22 kms from Mul. Markanda is a historical place famous for its Markanda temple housing a Shiva Linga which was worshipped by Markandeya. Earlier there were 24 temples, but now only 18 temple are existing and out of them only 4 temples are in good condition. On the occasion of Mahashivratri, a grand fair is held here. |
