Founded by an ordinary farmer, Mr. Varkey Veliyath, Kauthuka Park is a place of wonders and marvels at Chalakuddy on the way to Athirappally waterfalls in Thrissur district. This calm and peaceful place sprawls over an area of 1.25 acres of land is made in such a way that visitors can relax and enjoy the power of nature. Kauthuka Park which can be considered as a nature conservation center for research and education is recognized by Tourism Department, Government of Kerala. It is located about 5kms from chalakudy and 18 km from Cochin international airport. Kauthuka park is a haven for nature lovers. The park is fully enclosed with many rare medicinal plants, hills, caves, rivers and different types of trees. Rare species of birds and animals reside here freely without any restriction. Guinea pigs, sqirrels, rats and birds like emu, peacock, dove, turkey, rare species of chicken are some among them. The ponds and rivers within the park has crystal clear water with varieties of fishes. The park has a unique collection of utensils and agricultural appliances of a bygone era. There is a small hut in the park which is made with pots and mud. Pontiyac cave, jabal qara cave of Saudi Arabia etc. are also re constructed here. |
