Unkal Lake, located 3 km away from Hubli, near Chandramouleshwara temple is a beautiful picnic spot and a major source of drinking water for the whole city. This picturesque water spot surrounded by lush garden offers an enchanting sunset view and provides recreational facilities for children. Boating facilities are also available and one can experience the cool breeze blowing in the dusk. Another attraction of this lake is the statue of Swami Vivekananda located at the center of the lake. About 110 years old Unkal lake is well known as Karma Bhoomi of Shri Siddappajja, who was born in the year 1859 and left his home at the age of 14 in search of Guru. He then resided in the Unkal Mailarlinga Temple and died on 31st January 1921. Since then, an annual Jatra (mela) is held here. |
