The Sun temple is situated about 39 km from Ranchi on Ranchi-Tata Road
near Bundu. This temple, one of the highlights of Ranchi is architecturally
very attractive and has received the title "a poem written in stone".
The temple built by Sanskriti Vihar headed by Shri Sita Ram Maroo, the
Managing Director of Ranchi Express Group is designed in the form of a
gigantic chariot with 18 richly decorated wheels (9 on each side)
driven by 7 life- like white horses. The temple in a calm and peaceful
environment has a pond in its complex, which serves as a sacred place
for Chhathavratis (devotees taking part in the Chhath Pooja, ie Festival
of the Sun God) for worshipping the Sun. It is believed that by taking
a dip in this sacred pond the devotees will get relief from all sins.
There is also a beautiful dharamshala, intended for the devotees and the
tourists. The temple which fascinates the tourists by its beautiful surroundings
and locality of Chhota Nagpur Plateau region is well-connected by
a motorable road.
