Betla (Palamau) National Park is situated 180km from Ranchi, in the district
of Daltonganj, Jharkhand. It covers over an area of 979sq.km. It is 25
Km away from Daltomganj, the nearest town and rail head. The park has
a wide variety of fauna consisting of elephant, panther, leopard, wild
boar, tiger, gaur, sambar, chital, nuntjac, nilgai and porcupine. Jackal
and hyena are common scavengers. Bird-life is rich featuring the hornbill,
peafowl, partridge and white necked stork. Watch towers have been constructed
to view the wild life. The best time for visiting the park is from October
to May.
