The Gonda hill is situated 9 km north of Ranchi and 4 km from Albert Ekka
Chowk, on the Kanke road. The serene hill with a water reservoir at its
top, Kanke lake and dam at its foot and a rock garden carved out of the
rocks is an ideal place for a picnic. The rock garden has several structures
or statues made of granite, waterfalls and a swing made of iron bar, which
has only two poles. The garden is similar in design of the Rock Garden
of Jaipur. On its foothills there is a Mental Asylum, one of the largest
in the country designed by the British with a view that the cooler environment
would be helpful for psychological health. The Gondawana House, Head quarter
of the Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL) is
located in front of the hill.
