Water sports

The vast expanses of the shallow lagoons provide an ideal setting for water sports enthusiasts. Water sports facilities like kayaking, sailing, paddle boats, inflatable motor boats, glass bottom boats, water skiing, canoeing, yachting, snorkeling, wind surfing and scuba diving are available in the islands of Kavaratti, Kalpeni, Kadamat and Minicoy. There is a diving school in Bangaram island with facilities for scuba diving. Deep-sea fishing buffs can pursue big game fishing. Barracuda, Sail Fish, Yellow Fin Tuna, Triveli and sharks are abundant in the seas around Lakshadweep. Local boats with experienced crew can be hired.

Dolphin Dive Center, Kavaratti

The dive center is ideal for Scuba dive beginners and is conveniently located on the northern tip of the island very close to the entrance. Access to the various dive spots such as Harbour Mouth nearby, Zing Zang Par at the southern tip, Governors reef famous for its brightly coloured corals, Turtle Nest popular for the sightings of turtle, Wind Mill Point for Grey reef sharks &rays, Wall of Wonder at north west side for its caves is easy from the dive center. There are PADI certified instructors in the center to impart training in scuba diving. Course

Laccadives Dive Center, Kadmat

Kadmat is home to the first Laccadives Dive Centre and School which offers beginner to advanced courses throughout the season i.e from 1st October to 1st May. The centre caters to certified divers as well. This is the only Dive school in India offering CMAS certification courses from Beginner (1 Star) to Instructor levels. The area abounds with fish such as Tuna, rays, sharks, Lion fish, Lobsters, sweet lips, groupers, eels, turtles and is a memorable destination for scuba divers. Dive spots at Kadmat include the Wall (8-30 m), Breath of life (5-25 m), Turtle city (8-25m), home to large green sea turtles as the name suggests; Double reef (10-28 m) and Shark Alley (38 m) best spots to see sharks and rays; Jack point (5-20 m) best for beginners; the Cave on a western reef is home to plenty of shrimps etc.

All diving equipment will be provided at the centre. Swimming skills and a doctor's certificate declaring the candidate fit for diving are mandatory. The minimum age to undergo the diving course is 14 years. All bookings are to be done one month in advance by sending half the fee to

Minicoy Dive center

Dive sites include Ragganmathi, Mulimatti, Rabberufarai, Bose Point, Murambu, Boduhavaligang etc and there an abundance of Sharks, bull rays, turtles, school of jacks, red snappers, black snappers, napoleon wrasse, barracuda, sweet lips, hump back parrot fish etc. can be found here. There are three large ship wrecks near the island which turn out to be underwater museums for the divers.

Diving at Bangaram

There is a diving school in Bangaram. Dive sites include a sloping reef Manta Point, the Grand Canyon (10-40 m) around the isle itself, Tinnakara hill (10-25m), the shallow Three anchors and a ring where one can spot the same; Little Canyon (6-15 m) with tunnels and plenty of fish, best for taking photographs; Princess Royale (10-23 m) where remains of a British Galleon was sighted and now protected by the Archaeological Survey of India after an expedition with Lacadives and the Indian Navy. Perumal Par, a submerged bank and a world class dive site almost 40 miles away which is exclusively dived upon by Lacadives. The center is closed during the monsoons from mid May to September.
