For making Dosa :

Soak the black gram, and rice and fenugreek separately in two different vessels, for approximately four/five hours. Add enough water and grind it finely to make a thick batter. Add salt, blend well and keep the batter overnight for fermentation. Our dosa batter is ready.

Using this batter we are going to make Onion dosa.

For Masala :

Onions chopped : Two no's
Red chilly powder : 1 ½ table spoon
Garam masala powder : 1 table spoon
Green chilly chopped : 4 nos
Rice batter :
Salt : as per the need

Preparation :

Take the chopped onion in a bowl. Add red chilli powder and garam masala powder into it, followed by chopped green chilly, oil and salt. Mix well....

Please make sure that the rice batter has the needed amount of salt in it.

  • Place the Thava or flat pan on the stove.
  • Let it be hot..
  • Apply some oil or ghee on the thava, so that the batter does not stick to the surface.
  • Then.. Put some batter on the thava.. Add some onion mixture to it...
  • Spread the batter into a thin round shape using the spoon.
  • When the Dosa turns golden brown, turn it over and cook the other side also.
  • Serve onto a plate...

The thinner and crispier the dosa, the better it tastes! We can garnish the dosa with the remaining onion mixture like this....
