Director Kamal's new film, 'Karutha Pakshikal', starring Mammootty and
Padmapriya in the lead, tells the story of Tamil migrant workers who
reach Kerala to earn a living. In this movie, he delves into the colourless
but dynamic life of these people whose strength is their determination
to eke a living and their willingness to work hard.
Murugan (Mammootty), a migrant from an interior villages in Tamil Nadu,
makes a living in Kerala by ironing clothes of the local residents.
A widower with three children, his life revolves around his three
chidren- Malli ( Baby Malavika), Mayil (Baby Suhaila) and Alagappan
(Master Tejas). To add to his woes, one of his daughters is blind.
Padmapriya plays the character Poomkodi, another migrant living in
the vicinity. Warrier (Jagathy Sreekumar) is the caretaker of a house
owned by Suvarna (Meena). He is a mute eye-witness to the development
of events in the house and plays an indirect role in taking the story
forward.
After his heroic and comic performances in the recent past, Mammootty
turns towards serious roles. Karutha Pakshikal is Kamal's 37th film
and the fourth with Mammootty. Rest of the cast includes Sreehari, Dinesh,
Rajesh, Reshmi Gopan, Sreekala etc. P. Sukumaran handles the camera
and editing is done by K.Rajagopal. Suresh Kollam is the art director
of the film. There are two songs sung by Jayachandran and Manjari under
the music direction of Mohan Sithara. Produced by Kaladharan and Girijavallabhan
under the banner of G. V Productions, the film is scheduled to be released
on November 17.
