Shyamaprasad's third directorial venture, 'Ore Kadal' is based on Bengali
writer Sunil Gangopadhya’s classic 'Heerak Deepti', a love story
set in a very intense and difficult situation. Of his previous films-
'Agnisakshi' (1998) deals with the portrayal of the period and the life
of the Namboothiris of Kerala and 'Akale' (2004) depicts an Anglo-Indian
family whose members keep failing to understand or communicate with
one another. Both films received accolades.
The story of Ore Kadal revolves around the deep relationship between
Nathan (Mammootty) and Deepti (Meera Jasmine). Dr Nathan is a very well
known economist who travels all around the world but leads a very lonely
and isolated life. One day he meets Deepti, a middle class housewife
who lives in the same apartment complex. They get into a relationship
and also a lot of problems, which changes their outlook on life. She
is a married woman with a child but he doesn't believe in marriage or
love. What happens to this man and woman is the story.
Ramya Krishnan also plays a lead role as Bela, a friend and soul mate
of Dr Nathan. She has traveled through difficult paths, and has become
wiser and cynical because of that. She becomes a kind of sounding board
to Dr Nathan. The two women he is involved with -- Deepti and Bela --
are contrasting characters.
Meera Jasmine, is starring opposite Mammootty for the first time in
this film. Both of them are extremely proficient and national award
winners. Narain and Ramya Krishnan also play important roles in this
movie.
All the five songs in the movie are beautifully composed by Ouseppachan
in the raga Subha Panthuvarali to the lyrics of Girish Puthenchery.
The film produced by Vindhyan in the banner of Rasika Entertainments
is distributed by Emil And Eric Entertainments. The film shot mostly
at Chennai is ready for release during Onam.
