Music Label: T Series. Rating: **
Gone are the days when music used to be the USP of films. The present
scenario is different - mostly situational scores which one can relate
to only after watching the movie. And "Lage Raho Munnabhai",
the sequel to the hilarious "Munnabhai M.B.B.S", is no different.
Portraying the exploits of Munnabhai (Sanjay Dutt) and his sidekick
Circuit (Arshad Warsi), the film has five numbers and two of their remixed
versions besides an instrumental piece.
The composer-lyricist duo from the melodious "Parineeta"
had a tough job on hand and manages to come out with a little-above-average
effort.
The opening song "Lage raho Munnabhai" is a lively 'tapori'
number by Vinod Rathod that tells about the Munnabhai search for a lady
love.
The second song is another 'tapori' number "Samjho ho hi gaya"
by Rathod. In this song, Munnabhai tells Circuit how he was able to
find his woman. Sanjay and Arshad's dialogues about the search (for
Vidya Balan) also figure in the number.
"Pal pal...har pal" is a melodious romantic piece by Sonu
Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal and a relief from the monotonous numbers. Certainly,
the best of the pack.
Karunya, the runner-up of Indian Idol 2, lends his soft voice in "Aane
char ane" though nothing great can be said of the number. The filmmaker
Vidhu Vinod Chopra has given lyrics to this song apart from Swanand
Kirkire.
"Bande mein tha dum...Vande Mataram" is a patriotic number.
Inspired by and based on the famous song of yesteryears "Aao bachcho
tumhe dikhaye" from the film "Jagriti", the number is
sung by Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal and Pranab Biswas.
There is also an instrumental version of this song with good flute
work by Ashwin Srinivasan.
The two remixes are - "Aane char ane" and "Lage raho
Munnabhai" but in the latter, Shaan lends his voice.
This album can be worth if the film does well in the box-office and
people relate the music with the movie. Composer Shantanu Moitra really
fails in this film and the man whose classical and raga-based numbers
in "Parineeta" captivated everyone does not get the scope
in "Lage Raho Munna Bhai".
