Madhupal a well-known actor in the Malayalam Film Industry, turns into
direction with Thalappavu, a true life story. The movie narrates the
tale of the dreaded Naxal movement in Kerala in the early '60s, at the
same time zooming in on the personal dilemma and relationships of the
naxalites.
The movie focuses on a young naxalite Joseph and his strange relationship
with a policeman Raveendran Pillai, who is ultimately forced to shoot
and kill Joseph. Ravindran Pillai makes a confession 28 years later,
knitting together the ties of family, which sets off an intense debate
in the media. The movie spans a period from the 70's to the present
decade.
Prithvi plays the lead role of Naxal Joseph, while Lal portrays the
character Raveendran Pillai. Actress Rohini returns to Malayalam movies
after a long absence, as Raveendran Pillai’s wife. Bollywood actor
Atul Kulkarni enacts an important role as a landlord named Krishnadeva
Saiver.The film scripted by noted script writer Babu Janardanan, is
produced by Tamil actor Mohan under the banner of Civic Cinemas. Ace
cinematographer, Azhakappan handles camera for the film and Alex Paul
composes music. Lal Release brings it to the theatres. .
