Maharana Pratap Memorial, dedicated to the Rajput ruler Maharana Pratap is situated at the Moti Margi or Pearl Hill on the banks of Fateh Sagar Lake. Locally known as Pratap Smarak, this historic site is an architectural marvel housing a life sized bronze statue of Maharana Pratap seated on his beloved loyal horse, Chetak. Placed on a white pedestal, the statue of Maharana Pratap was constructed by Maharana Bhagwat Singh Mewar with the help of a public trust. Maharana Pratap Memorial bears great significance in the hearts of the local people, who visit here regularly to pay their reverence to the great ruler. Maharana Pratap Memorial is a favorite spot among the moviemakers and was captured in many movies. Maharana Pratap also known as Rana Pratap was the son and successor of Maharana Udai Singh II. He marked the Rajput era and also the rivalry with Mughal Emperor Akbar in the history. Maharana Pratap, who spent a major part of his life in jungles, was always accompanied by his horse, which he had named as Chetak. The horse was very loyal to his master and carried him in every battlefield and stood by his master till he breathed his last in the battle of Haldighati between Rajputs and Mughals in 1576. The statues of Hakim Khan Sur, Bhamashah, Bhilu Raja and Jhalaman, who were associated with Maharana Pratap, are also erected at the site of Maharana Pratap Memorial. Maharana Pratap Memorial and its premises are well maintained so that the tourists can enjoy the picturesque surrounding. Nearby Maharana Pratap Memorial, there are ruins of one of the earliest forts of Udaipur and also a delightful Japanese rock garden. The ruins of Moti Mahal, which was possessed by Maharana Udai Singh, can also be seen from here. |
