Cities & Towns Rajasthan Jodhpur Destination Temples Maha Mandir
Located about 10km northeast of the city on Mandore road, Mahamandir- literally means a massive temple, was built during 1812. Maha Mandir, dedicated to Lord Shiva is renowned for its magnificent architecture with the elaborately carved 84 pillars. The walls and pillars of the temple are studded with traditional motifs and the intricate cutworks on stones in which the yogic postures are beautifully engraved are worth seeing. The temple is surrounded by a walled town and the complex and monastery were said to be constructed for the priests dedicated to the service of the Jodhpur royal court. A lake named Mansagar which is made by Maharaja Umaid Singh is located near the Maha Mandir. |
