Sardar Government Museum of Jodhpur is located in the
middle of the beautiful Umaid Public Gardens on the High Court Road, about
5kms from the main city. Built during the time of Maharaja Umaid Singhji
(1909), the museum is named after Maharaja Sardar Singh of Jodhpur. Sardar
Government museum has a wide collection of weapons, textiles, coins, miniature
portraits, local crafts, manuscripts and images of Jain Tirthankars. The
museum also houses a public library and a zoo, specially designed for
children. The zoo is occupied with varieties of stuffed animals and number
of desert birds. The military section of the museum exhibits cumbersome
wooden biplane models and an extraordinary brass battleship. The government
museum remains open on all days from 10:00AM to 4:00PM, except on Fridays.
