Air : 
Rourkela airstrip, located around 11kms from the city center is being used for landing VIP planes and helicopters. Maintained by Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), currently it offers air service to Kolkata only. The nearby airports to Rourkela are Ranchi (173 km), Bhubaneswar (378 km) and Kolkata (413 km). 

Rail : 
Rourkela, the major route connecting the two metros of India, is situated on the Kolkata-Mumbai South Eastern railway line. Rourkela Junction (code : ROU), Bondamunda Junction (BNDM), Panposh (PPO) are the railway stations in Rourkela. The main station, Rourkela Junction is located about 4kms from the city center and has direct trains from New Delhi, Calcutta, Bombay, Chennai, Bokaro, Tata, Ahmedabad, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur and Puri. The major trains passes through this station are Gitanjali Express, Tapaswini Express, Ispat Express, Kalinga Utkal Express, Koraput-Howrah Express, Howrah-Ahmedabad Express, South Bihar Express , Azad Hind Express and Mumbai-Howrah Mail. 

Bondamunda Junction is about 10kms east and Panposh is about 9kms west of Rourkela Junction.

Road :
Rourkela is connected to various towns of the state by State Highway 10 and National Highway 23. Orissa State Transport Corporation (OSRTC)  ply buses from Rourkela to Sonpur, Bhubaneswar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur and other major places in the state.

For local transport in the city, auto-rickshaw and taxis are available.
