Jangha Dev Temple

Jangha Dev Temple, situated in Badagoan village, which is nearly about 70 km from Rourkela is dedicated to Lord Jangha Dev. The interesting thing about this temple is that, only the lower part of the body of the deity i.e. from thigh to knee is worshiped by the devotees. Jangha Dev has been regarded as the perceptible God by the local inhabitants. The annual temple festival called Bhoipali festival, held in the month of Pausa is attended by a large number of people from different parts of the state, especially from the Gond community.

Several stories and myths are associated with the origin of Lord Jangha Dev temple. It is said that the Pandavas after completing the funeral rites of Lord Krishna thrown the remnants i.e. the 'Navi Brahma' into the ocean. The forest inhabitants collected the lower parts of the lord and started worshipping it and later identified themselves as Gonds. During the Mughal invasion, the idol of Lord Jangha Deva was brought to the dense forest of Sundergarh and since then the Lord is being worshipped here.
