Bhubaneswar alias Bhubaneshwar, renowned as the 'Temple City of India' is the modern capital and the largest city of Orissa (now known as Odisha), situated on the eastern side of the State. Designed by the world famous German architect Otto Königsberger, the city of Bhubaneswar came into existence on 13th April 1948 and derived its name from Lord Shiva known as Tribhuvaneswara or Lord of the Three Worlds. Bhubaneswar is well-known for its applique work of Pipli, Ikat sarees, cane furniture and Bidri-ware.
Bhubaneswar is an ideal tourist destination endowed with many tourist attractions and religious spots. It houses more than 500 temples including the world famous temples like Lingaraj Temple, Mukteswar Temple, Parashurameswar Temple etc. Bhubaneswar along with the cities of Puri and Konark forms a part of the Golden Triangle (Swarna Tribhuja) which is one of the most visited tourist destinations in East India. The Regional Plant Resource Center (RPRC), famous for maintaining the largest Rose garden in India is another prime attraction of the city. Bhubaneshwar is the home town of the world renowned Odissi dance form.
