Founded in 1968, the folklore museum has a spectacular collection of more
than 6,500 unique folklore exhibits from all over Karnataka. Located in
the imposing Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion in the Mysore University campus
at Manasagangotri, the museum is one of the biggest of its kind in Asia.
The exhibits include temple chariots, wooden images from Mekkekatte, religious
objects belonging to Soliga tribe, carved wooden figures from Karnataka’s
villages, ornamental wooden altar, rural costumes, decorative masks, folk
musical instruments, ceremonial headwear etc.
Visiting Hour : 10.00 am to 5.00pm
Sunday and Second Saturday are holidays
