Organized by the Haryana Tourism, Surajkund Crafts Mela is an annual fair
held in the first week of February at the village of Surajkund. Launced
in 1981, it is a unique fair showcasing folk arts and rich crafts tradition
from all regions of India. The mela brings together crafts persons like
potters, embroiderers, weavers, wood carvers, metal workers, stone smiths,
painters etc. Several thatched roof platforms are specially created in
order to display and sell the beautiful handlooms and handicrafts by the
talented artisans and craftsmen.
As a part of this colourful fair, cultural programmes like folk dances,
magic, acrobats , rides and shows for kids and music recitals etc. are
performed in an open air theater named Natyashala. Several food stalls
are available here that serves traditional Indian cuisines as well as
other varieties of foods like Chinese, burgers, snacks, chow mien etc.
are also available. Food is served in banana leaves and clay pots.
