The Sardar Patel Planetarium with a seating capacity of around 200 people
is a vast building located near the main gate of Sayaji Baug park. The
planetarium conducts many audiovisual programs on the movement of celestial
bodies in space and earth's planetary system apart from showing the enormous
progress of India’s space program. It functions six days a week and runs
three shows daily in different languages such as Gujarati ( 4.00 p.m.),
English (5.00 p.m.) and Hindi (6.00 p.m.). Special shows for the educational
institutions are also arranged here on requests. It is closed on Thursdays.
A latest digital telescope has been introduced in the planetarium. The
study of the moon, planets, comets and natural satellites becomes easy
with the help of this digital telescope. From this one can also explore
and able to see the deep sky objects, every event related to the sun like
solar flares and sun spots.
