Embroidery

Embroidery has been a craft for women of Banni, a small village in the Rann of Kutch, known for its intrinsic and artistic embroidery work. Vibrant colours such as red, yellow and saffron are commonly used. Small mirrors are interspersed to lend glitter and charm. The finest type of such embroidery work with small mirrors is called Abhla-Bharat. Mirrors cut in different shapes are embroidered around the shapes.

Women of every community in Banni such as Jats, Mutwas, Lohanas, harijans etc are engaged in embroidery work. Each community has their unique type of embroidery stitches. Most commonly Jat women are engaged in this type of embroidery work. When a bride is sent to her husband's house, she carries with her some pieces of skirts and cholis exquisitely embroidered with minute details. Some forms of embroidery are also done to decorate animals. Banni embroidery is now popular and is found in home decor,
