After a long gap, Mohanlal and Shaji Kailash teams up with a new film, 'Baba Kalyani' which tells the story of a police officer who is sentimentally attached to his mother. The last film of Mohanlal and Shaji together was Natturajavu.

Mohanlal plays Baba Kalyani who is an ordinary police officer in daylight but the head of anti terrorist squad at night. In course of his work, he makes some very powerful enemies. One of his opponents gets Baba Kalyani transferred to Kochi with an idea to kill him. The film revolves around how the cop carries out his work over all the obstacles that he has to face at every point of time.

Mamta Mohandas as the heroin plays the role of a news reporter . Others in the cast are Biju Menon, Jagathy and Inderjeet. The film is scripted by S.N.Swamy, who is associating with Mohanlal after a gap of 16 years. Antony Perumbavoor, is the producer. Shooting is progressing in and around Kochi. Baba Kalyani scheduled to be released on Christmas 2006.
