Pune Festival

 

Pune Festival, organized by MTDC jointly with Government of India, is celebrated in the month of August – September every year during the Ganesh Chaturthi. It is the biggest festival of Pune celebrated for 10 days. The festival begins with the installation of the idols of Lord Ganesha on the first day and ends with the immersion of the idol on the 10th day.

Main highlights of this cultural and art festivals are classical dance, music recitals, dramas, magic shows, traditional sports, and other events. Competitions like, skating, trekking, golf, bicycle, motorcar and bullock cart race are conducted. The aim of the festival is to promote contemporary trends in the traditional art of rangoli and the dramatic arts. Maestros and stalwarts from all over the country are invited to perform during the festival. The festival provides opportunity to the growing musicians and dancers.

Pune Festival has achieved both national and international popularity as a traditional and cultural identity of the city.  The Union government promotes the festival abroad as a main tourist attraction. It is one of the biggest festivals of Pune, which attracts visitors from different parts of the country and abroad. The visitors can also participate in the events and competitions. The festival also exhibits beautiful textiles, handicraft etc.
