Theeyal is yet another popular dish from the Kerala cuisine.. it’s basically roasted coconut gravy prepared as a vegetarian or Non vegetarian dish. Vegetarian fare include theeyal with Bitter gourd, Shallots, raw banana etc. Here is a theeyal with prawns, which is quite scrumptious. | |||||

Preparation : Heat some oil in a pan, put grated coconut, shallots (1 cup), dry chilies, fenugreek and curry leaves, mix well. Add pepper powder, turmeric powder, chilly powder & coriander powder saute for some time & then add required salt, roast well. After it cools, transfer the roasted ingredients to a mixy jar, Grind well.. Heat oil in a pan and add curry leaves, the remaining chopped shallots, tomato, and mix well. Add the ground masala mix to the pan and saute well, then put prawns to the pan add tamarind water and mix well. Close the pan and cook well, add some water if needed. After 5 min open it and add salt, green chillies and curry leaves and again mix well, Close the pan again and keep on a low flame. Heat 2 tbsp oil in another pan splutter mustard seeds, curry leaves, shallots and dry chillies for a few mins. When the ingredients change colour pour it over the curry and mix well.
