ALLA-UDDIN KHAN

1862-1972

Ustad Alla-Uddin Khan of Tripura holds an important place among the Hindustani classical Maestros of Indian music. From his childhood he had great devotion towards music, his unquenchable urge for music forced him to leave his home when he was eight. He mastered his great talents under the guidance of Nanu Gopal, Nandlal and Vazir Khan. The musician in him was so great that, he was awarded 'Padma Bushan' in 1958 and in 1971 'Padma Vibhushan'. He dedicated his life to music and he joined with Udaya Shankar the famous dancer in stage shows which brought him fame. His contribution to music is remembered every year during the All India Music Festival.

The effort taken by him from his childhood in spite of facing many hardships made him attain mastery in the field. His life is a symbol of the fact that one can reach the peak if one works with unabated efforts.
