Shriram Shankarlal Music Festival or Shriram Shankarlal Sangeet Sammelan is one of the earliest Indian Classical musical events held in Delhi for the past six decades. It could be one among the first classical vocal and instrumental music events organised after attaining independence. The Sammelan which began as a small concert with an informal gathering of musicians at Smt.Sumitra Charat Ram's house at Delhi's Curzon Road, during the Country’s independence eve on 15th August 1947, has now become a forum for the talented youth alongside the most authentic traditional musicians. Sumitra Charat Ram is also the founder patron of Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra set up in 1952, a premier cultural institute in Delhi.
The festival was organised by Sir Shankarlal Foundation, set up in memory of Sir Shankarlal who was the brother of Sir Shri Ram, Father in Law of Smt. Sumitra Charat Ram till 1993 as Shankarlal Music Festival. Thereafter, Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra itself took up the festival and named it Shriram Shankarlal Music Festival.
The three day festival is held at Kamani Auditorium, Copernicus Marg in Central Delhi every year in March- April. The auditorium with a seating capacity of over 600 people gets packed with music enthusiasts who has high expectations, from around the country during the event. The music fest is organised by Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, also located in the same complex as that of the Kamani auditorium.
