Style", the much-hyped creation of choreographer-turned-director
Lawrence, can be watched for electrifying dance numbers. But the self-pitying
protagonist, played by Lawrence himself, makes it a cliché-ridden
melodrama.
Unnecessary sub-plots like Prabhu Deva's career, Charmi's love track
and the overdone 'mother' sentiment combine to make it an even more
stretched-out affair.
Lawrence arrived with a bang as a director with "Mass", setting
cash counters ringing. His second venture, a stale fare, may reduce
him to a one-hit wonder.
Dancing sensation Prabhu Deva is wasted in the guest role of a top
dancer who loses both his legs and grooms the passionate dancer in Lawrence.
The director manages to tap Deva's dancing talent in only one number.
Glamorous Charmi and Raja of "Anand"
fame are lost in insignificant roles. Award-winning Kamilinee plays
a dim-witted girl in love with Lawrence.
Superstar Chiranjeevi, who introduced Lawrence as a choreographer,
appears in the film as a chief guest for a dance competition and bashes
up a few thugs. Nagarjuna, who presented Lawrence as a director, does
a stunt sequence.
The comedy of Dharmavarapu and Kovai Sarala evokes a few laughs.
Producer Lagadapati Sridhar of Lanco Group made a winner of the dud
"Evadi Gola Vadithi" with huge publicity. "Style"
definitely needs his promotional skills.
