Ravana Prabhu is the sequel of the movie
'Devasuram'. In this movie Mohanlal comes back in a double role, i.e of
the wise, old Mangallaserry Neelakandan and his son Karthikeyan. In character,
Karthikeyan is very much similar to his father- in negative aspects especially
his drinking stints. But he doesn't have any taste for music and dance
like his father Neelakandan.
Although Neelakandan has changed for the
better in his old age, the villain Nepolian from 'Devasuram' still holds
a grudge against his old enemy. He is looking for a chance to take revenge
and he succeeds. When Bama (Revathy), Neelakandan's wife become seriously
ill, Nepolian even shunts her out from the specialty hospital he owns.
Ultimately Bama dies. Karthikeyan, the smuggler and callous son do not
even turn up to do her last rites.
Janaki (Vasundara Das) is the daughter of
Nepolian working as a doctor in her father's hospital. She has a soft
corner for Karthikeyan. But Kartikeyan doesn't have any inkling about
it.
The movie has got all the ingredients for
a typical masala film.. sentiments, romance, action and songs to impress
any viewer. The songs have been picturised well. Mohanlal as usual is
in his element although one misses the down to earth, humourous roles
he used to excel in. There was need for characters like Manoj K. Jayan
and Jagathy in the film and Vasundara Das of the 'Shakalaka' fame, fail
to impress as a Malayalee girl.
Overall the film can be rated as average.
