No Malayalam actor has had
as many musical hits as Mohanlal. Who can forget films like His Highness
Abdullah, Bharatham, Chitram, Aaram Thampuran among many others? For
the actor, song picturisation comes naturally when he emotes a classical
or a duet song on screen.
After doing family entertainers and larger-than-life roles, Mohanlal
is now doing a full length musical titled Vadakkumnathan, which has
music by Raveendran. The Mohanlal- Raveendran-Yesudas trio has churned
out many hits in the past.
Vadakkumnathan has Telugu actress Padmapriya as the female lead, and
her recent role in Kazhcha was appreciated. In the film, Mohanlal plays
Bharath Pisharody, a musical genius and the film is directed by Shajun
Karial.
The actor had been to the Himalayas, Rishikesh and Hardwar last September
for the first schedule of the film. Now the second schedule has started
at Kanjangad near Kasaragod and the musical is expected to be completed
soon.
Mohanlal says “Vadakkumnathan is different in all ways. Raveendran
Master has given some mind blowing melodious classical numbers for the
film and Dasettan's number Gange…Gange….. is one of the most soothing
compositions that I have heard in recent times”. The songs are also
rendered by Chitra, M.G.Sreekumar and Biju Narayanan.
Vadakkumnathan promises to be a visual treat for Mohanlal fans, as
the actor has taken personal interest in picturisation of the songs.
