After a long gap of 12 years, Suresh Gopi is back as Bharatchandran IPS in the sequel
to his political thriller, 'Commissioner' to packed theatres..
The story is set in the Malabar coast
where the Malabar League party rules, under the leadership of the self centered
Hyder Ali Hassan ( Sai Kumar) who has underworld connections. Ali Hassan wants
to establish a smart city in the coastal area near Kozhikode. Fearing opposition
from the local communities he instigates clashes between them with the help of a
Hindu leader (Balachandran Chullikad) and others.
Mayambaram Baba ( Sri Raman) is another Muslim leader, who takes effort
to bring about communal harmony along the coastline. The string of clashes
among the communities calls for a probe from the government. A commission
was set up and in spite of the warning from the Police IG, Mayambaram
Baba comes to testify in a special court and gets murdered in the court
yard by a hired assassin Kala purohit (Ajay Ratnam) from the Gulf. Our
hero Bharatchandran (Suresh Gopi) comes on scene, when the Police IG
Habeer Basheer (Lalu Alex) assigns him to solve the case. Find out how
he and his team including Ali (Madhu Warrier), Pookoi (Rajan P.Dev)
and Hema (Shreya Reddy) books the culprit...
The film directed
by Renji Panikkar is not comparable to the original but it has its moments.
The narration is a bit dragging till Suresh Gopi arrives. Then the pace
picks up and the whole film gets over within 2 hours. There are no songs
in the film but the remixed background score from the original Commissioner
makes up for it. Technically the film is no big shakes - cinematography
is strictly ok and action so.. so, as compared the present day films.
Dialogues are explosive as could be expected of Renji's films in this
genre.
Performance wise Suresh Gopi takes
the cake with his screen presence, action and strong dialogue delivery. This
talented actor proves yet again that he could deliver action roles with
relish. Saikumar as the villain, is excellent.
Rajan P Dev as the hero's accomplice and Vijayaraghavan as the Chief Minister,
all have done their roles well. Madhu Warrier, Manju Warrier's brother as Suresh
Gopi's right hand man and debutant Shreya Reddy, SS music VJ has incidentally
nothing much to do.
Overall its an okay film for those
who like this genre and a must see for Suresh Gopi fans.
