Anniyan
the mega budget, much hyped film deals with the three characters of
a split personality.
Vikram
plays the main character Ramanujam, a prim and
proper Brahmin lawyer who
goes by the rules and wants everyone around him to
do the same. He reacts and interferes in things
around him which he feels is not morally right. He picks
on eve teasers, people who spit on roads, break
traffic rules etc. Though his intentions are good,
his actions take him nowhere in life.
His
father Parthasarathy (Nedumudi Venu) always
advices him to change his ways as it is not
possible for one man to change the world. His
friend Chari ( Vivek ) makes fun of his ways and
more over the girl next door Nandini (Sada) whom
he loves, turns him down as he is boring and a stickler
for rules. On the whole Ramanujam alias Ambi is
not at all happy with life as he is not able to
make things right and bring about justice, and he
is termed a loser by people around him.
Meanwhile
he comes across a website Anniyan.com which gives
information on the Puranas, specifically
Garudapuranam. The verses which explains that
people who do wrong in this world will be punished
in hell according to the degree of their deeds,
transforms him completely. He takes it upon
himself to punish the wrong doers in his own
degree and that leads to the emergence of 'Anniyan',
a character extremely violent and
who seek to get instant justice. Unknown to Ambi,
Anniyan leaves no wrong doer and gives them
extreme punishments.
In between,
to get his girl, another personality, a macho model emerges. This charming
character Remo chases Nandini who falls flat for him. Through his incarnations
Ambi achieves exactly what he wants in his subconscious mind. Meanwhile
a policeman Prabhakar (Prakash Raj) investigating the violent murders
is on Anniyan's track.
One day Ambi finds that Nandini is involved with a land registration
where she underwrites the amount to avoid taxes. The 'anniyan' in him
surfaces and goes after to kill her. Nandini seeing that some thing
is amiss with Ambi takes him to a Psychiatrist (Nasser). In front of
them the three personalities surface in split seconds and the doctor
confirms that Ambi has Multiple Personality disorder. Nandini is shocked
that the Remo she loves is none other than Ambi. The rest of the story
is about how and why Ambi becomes what he is. Watch the movie to find
out how things work out for both of them...
The
movie is technically brilliant with stunning
visual effects in par with international
standards. The action is superb. But at times the
director gets carried away in the fantasy that
some sequences are unbelievable. The songs by
Harris Jayaraj are good and choreographed very
well.
On
the performance front, Vikram takes the cake. He
is superb and carries the film in his shoulders.
He handles the three characters with equal ease.
This is definitely one of his best roles. Sada
looks glamorous and is okay in her role. The rest
of the cast including Nedumudi Venu, Nasser, Vivek
and Prakash Raj do their roles convincingly.
Overall the film is
a watchable entertainer, sure to be big hit.
