Qayamat is a thriller inspired by the Hollywood flick 'The Rock' starring Nicholas Cage, Sean Connery and Ed Harris..

The citizens of Mumbai are under a threat from the trio Ali (Arbaaz Khan), Abbas ( Sanjay Kapoor) and Laila (Ishaa Koppikar), major arms dealers in Asia. The trio under tremendous pressure of being tracked down by Akram Sheikh (Suniel Shetty) a CBI officer on their lead, threatens to contaminate Mumbai's drinking water sources with virus-tipped missiles if their demands for money and the means for a safe escape are not met.

The deadly virus was smuggled out of the lab of Dr. Rahul (Aashish Chowdhry) a scientist who was in the process of creating an anti virus which would help in saving lives in case of a biological and chemical warfare. Akram makes out a plan to beat them. He seeks the help of Rachit ( Ajay Devgan) a former aid of Ali and Abbas, a daredevil convict now imprisoned in solitary confinement.

Rachit an expert in Hi tech robberies is severely drugged to counter his occasional violent mental state. So Akram along with Rachit and other commandoes and Dr. Rahul, the researcher with the expertise to defuse the virus-tipped missiles set on a dangerous mission to save the city.

Technically the film is far superior to the similar movies made in this genre.. cinematography is excellent and the movie moves at a slick pace maybe more in the latter half. The background score gels well with the happenings and stunts are well executed. The second half is full of slick action. All put together the movie has an international feel to it. The pace slackens in the first half when Ajay Devgan's past love life is shown.. There was no need for that track as well as the songs that appear one after the other in the first half.

Ajay Devgan is excellent as the brooding convict Rachit. He has emoted the quiet character well through his expressions, especially with his eyes. Suniel Shetty as the chief of the commands, delivers patriotic dialogues with relish. Sanjay Kapoor and Arbaaz Khan are okay. Isha Koppikar looks gorgeous and gives a good performance. Neha Dhupia, former Miss India in a small role as Ajay's love is okay. Chunkey Pandey returns to Hindi films after a long time- acts as a scientist colleague of Aashih Chaudhary, responsible for smuggling out the virus. Ashish Chaudhary himself gives a commendable act. Raveena Tandon makes a special appearance in the film

The big star cast and the get up is sure to raise expectations... The movie is a cool entertainer especially for those who love action.
