But the rigorous training in the Military Academy turns
out to be too much for him and he returns home only to be admonished by
his father as well as his childhood sweetheart Romi (Priety Zinta). Romi
who is a self made girl reproaches his coming back and this causes a rift
between the two.
Forward a number of years, they meet again at the backdrop of the India
-Pak war in Kashmir- she as an accomplished television journalist and
Karan now a military officer with a main aim or 'Lakshya' of winning
the war for the country.
The director has told the story in a deft manner especially in the
first half. The gradual transformation of Karan and his training sessions
have been handled really well and has a natural feel to it. But in the
second half the pace of the story slackens and drags, when the focus
shifts to war. Although some of the war sequences are technically brilliant,
there is no novelty as such, as the happenings are much too similar
to those seen in L.O.C Kargil. The director has incorporated the romantic
aspect of the lead pair between the war which gradually culminates in
an appropriate climax.
On the performance front, Hritik takes the cake. He has merged with
his character and done his role remarkably well. Priety Zinta is apt
in her role. The strong supporting cast with veterans Amitabh Bachchan,
Om Puri, Amrish Puri, Sharad Kapoor, Boman Irani and Sushant Singh pep
up the movie with their fine performances.
Overall the film is slick- well shot with beautiful locales, superb
dialogues and spectacular action.
